The Open Payment Alliance, breaking boundaries

The OPA is an industry-wide joint-initiative led by HEDNA aimed at creating a totally streamlined B2B payment ecosystem for the travel industry.

Recognizing that the main roadblock to payment innovation is the legacy constraint imposed by the existing distribution channel (GDSs, Channel Managers and the likes), the OPA advocates the decoupling of the distribution and the payment channels.

A central piece in the OPA architecture is the Payment Manager: An intelligent hub which, upon receipt of a payment instruction from a travel company, automatically orchestrates a sophisticated payment workflow, involving different payment service providers and forms of payment (VCCs, bank transfers, digital currencies, etc.). The payment manager is therefore ultimately responsible for guaranteeing that the funds will flow seamlessly from the travel company’s bank account to the supplier’s in due course according to the terms set forth in the payment instruction.
